Spider-Man’s current run celebrates fifty issues by reintroducing the Green Goblin. His return has been teased in the past weeks and now there is no stopping him. But this is just the beginning: in Spidey’s next issue he’ll have to deal with the Sinister Six again! It’s Marvel Comics at its finest.
WORLD’S FINEST: TEEN TITANS
Meanwhile DC Comics collects this great series focussing on the sidekick superteam. Yup, it’s yet another retelling of their origin story. But World’s Finest writer Mark Waid turns it into an unmissable event hurtling the Titans into haunted houses, comic cons and battles with the dark Anti-Titans.
THE ODDLY PEDESTRIAN LIFE OF CHRISTOPHER CHAOS
Quite a different take on the teenage theme is Christopher Chaos. This quirky young adult flavoured graphic novel tells the tale of Frankenstein-esque Christopher’s high school hijinks. It’s a touching story which blends The Breakfast Club with the Universal Monsters. A sweet coming-of-age mystery.
ZOMBIE TERRORS: UNDEAD SPECIAL #1
Small publishers like Asylum Press have a hard time catching up with the big boys. With titles like Zombie Terrors, filled with sexy ladies and plenty of sickening gore, they are able to compete to an extent. This fun anthology is a great pallet cleanser after reading countless generic superhero stories.
DEEP CUTS
And then there is Image Comics! Next week they collect Deep Cuts, a heartfelt tribute to jazz in all it’s shapes and forms. Six tales set in different era’s tell the tale of that most independent of musical styles. Filled with great tributes to the struggles of black musicians, Deep Cuts is pure comic book art.
