11-07-23 | Marvel’s greatest vampire hunter, the enigmatic Blade, is back in an all new series of superb comics. Blade #1 will debut next week, followed by two more exciting issues. Hopefully, sales of Blade will convince Marvel to continue his thrilling horror adventures beyond this short series. Its current run is written by Bryan Hill and illustrated by Elena Casagrande.
This new comic finds Blade unwittingly unleashing an evil entity too big for him to take on alone. This doesn’t seem like the most original take on the character, until Blade realises the only one who can help him stop the Adana is his ex-girlfriend. ‘In exchange for a weapon that can destroy the Adana, Blade must get his arms-dealing ex-girlfriend out of a bloody situation with some literal headhunters. But no good deed goes unpunished when he finds himself under the control of her captor!’
A fine twist in the classic Marvel tradition! Not only do we get the usual monster hunting mayhem, we’re also treated to thought provoking emotional friction between Blade and his former lover. We’re keen to find out where Marvel will take Blade next! The character made his debut in the early days of Tomb of Dracula, way back in 1973. Though initially a rather obscure character, he has since become a household name, thanks to the blockbuster trilogy starring Wesley Snipes. Blade is expected to return to the cinema in 2025.
