26-09-23 | What started on NBC Television in 1966 finally grinds to a halt. Star Trek the Original Series is officially finished. In 2019 IDW started their popular Star Trek Year Five range of comics. The series ended in 2021, wrapping up the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Those very voyages will be collected in a massive hardcover later this week. Star Trek Year Five will be rereleased in two volumes, the first one which is out soon.
You’ll be missing out on the acclaimed finale, but with fourteen adventures included there’s plenty of vintage Star Trek to make up for it. A Tholian passenger, with which the crew are unable to communicate, plays a key role in setting up the action. And naturally the Klingons make a return appearance, battling with Captain Kirk in the final episode of this volume!
Star Trek Year Five Vol. 1 features too many great artists to list. The stories are drawn in the clear, crisp and colourful style of the television series and the many comics that have followed in its wake. The second volume of Year Five has yet to be announced officially, so make sure you support this release. It might also ensure the release of Star Trek Year Four, the six part mini-series which was equally well received when released in 2007. Classic Star Trek ends in style. Boldy going where no comic book has gone before.
