28-03-23 | The fragile peace between man and monkey is disturbed once more, as Marvel Comics relaunches Planet of the Apes in comic book form. Devolution, written by David F. Walker, promises to be a sprawling saga pivoting around the aftermath of the ALZ-113 virus (or Simian Flu). ‘While well-meaning researchers hunt for a cure, a fanatical group of humans has their own solution: kill all apes. Soon apes will witness the true depths of human cruelty…’
Marvel was also responsible for the classic comic series launched in 1974. ‘It was my favourite series of comics from Marvel when I was a kid – ’ explains David F. Walker. ‘ – To be part of Marvel’s return to the Planet of the Apes is more than an honour, it is a childhood dream come true.’ Boom! Studios has had much recent success presenting tales from the Planet of the Apes universe. Their books cover both the classic era and the reboot films.
Walker and artist Dave Wachter will also be expanding upon the reboot universe. It’s all part of a new 20th Century Studios imprint at Marvel, which will be exploiting classic properties from the 20th Century Fox archives. When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019 they became the owners of several notable franchises. Along the unofficial contenders for future Marvel comic series are Alien, Predator, Avatar, Die Hard, The Fly and The Omen.
