02-05-23 | Next week Marvel celebrates the 35th anniversary of Venom in style with the launch of Extreme Venomverse. This wild anthology will feature many different takes on the villainous fan-favourite. The first issue will contain stories centred around the family life of Venom’s alter ego Eddie Brock, finds him taking on the pledge of the samurai and most notably sees the return of the iconic symbiote Spider-Man.
This black suited Spider-Man, however, is not Peter Parker. Extreme Venomverse explores how Eddie Brock interprets the role of Spider-Man. Venom’s sentient alien suit was originally worn by Spider-Man in 1984. Having rid himself of the costume, it was adopted by Eddie Brock. Or rather it adopted him. Delving into an alternate take on the tale, where Eddie Brock suited up to be the symbiote Spider-Man, rather than Venom, should prove interesting. Just one of the many fascinating ‘what-ifs’ in this promising Marvel series.
Extreme Venomverse comes hot on the heels of Edge of the Spider-verse, which explores alternate versions of Spider-Man in four issues, the next of which will be available by the end of May. As for the Venomverse, issue 2 will see Black Cat don the symbiote suit and later issues hurl Venom into space and the Old West. Both Extreme Venomverse and Edge of the Spider-verse will be available as trade paperbacks in October of this year.
