13-04-23 | HBO has confirmed what until now had only been a rumour: a Harry Potter remake is officially in the works. It’ll be Potter’s first foray into television, which will encompass the entire series of books by J.K. Rowling. Each season will be an adaption of one of the novels, starting with Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone.
Rowling, who was closely involved in adapting her books for the big screen, will also serve as a producer on these new series. ‘I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series.’ When asked how Rowling’s recent controversial views on transgender women will affect the production, HBO chairman Casey Bloys explained he feels ‘… that’s a very online conversation, very nuanced and complicated and not something we’re going to get into. Our priority is what’s on the screen.’
The Wizarding World, as the Harry Potter universe is officially dubbed, has been expanding dramatically over the last couple of years. Fans have recently been treated to stage show Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, videogame Hogwarts Legacy and more feature films in the shape of the Fantastic Beasts series. The new HBO Max series returns the franchise to it’s roots. As of writing no premiere date has been announced.
