24-09-23 | Following quite a few teasers, the BBC have published the official trailer for Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary specials. After Jodie Whittaker departed the role in 2022 she was expected to reincarnate as Ncuti Gatwa. Instead viewers were surprised to witness Whittaker changing into David Tennant, who played the Doctor in the early 2000s. In the upcoming specials the Doctor sets out to discover why he’s wearing his old face instead of a new one.
Also returning is Catherine Tate, who was one of David Tennant’s traveling companions in 2008, and the Celestial Toymaker, who has not appeared in the show since its black and white era, way back in 1966. Neil Patrick Harris will portray the Toymaker in three specials which celebrate six decades of Doctor Who. The specials break with tradition, since they conventionally feature multiple Doctors from the past teaming up. Only David Tennant’s appearance has been confirmed, though the BBC might have a few tricks up its sleeve.
